Weather: 48 degree, sunny, and enough wind to make you think Mary Poppins was about to drop in to a visit.
We started with some “Simon Says” COP, we called out some exercises, only doing the ones that Simon Says. If you started to perform without Simon Says, you got laughed at a little, and some extra credit assigned for later.
COP: SSH, Slow Grass Grabbers, Michael Phelps, and a few squats.
Thang 1: Follow the Leader. We had setup some cones and such prior to anyone’s arrival. However the wind was stronger than the little plastic cones could handle. So we opted for some rubber balance balls. We started with walking along the curb. Left leg on the curb, right leg on the parking surface. We followed that to a balance beam. Which led us to a right leg on the curb, and left leg on the parking surface. Ending with a weave between obstacles. Finished with a plank to wait for the six. Once everyone was in Plank, we knocked out a few extra Merkins.
Thang 2: Bunny Hop Rock Paper Scissors. A line drawn on the ground. PAX split into 2 groups, on opposing ends of the line. Perform a bunny hop until you meet a member from the opposing side. Rock/paper/scissors. Winner advances, loose back of the line. We played 2 rounds.
Thang 3: Bottle Flip – Tic tac toe. Remaining in same teams, do a bottle flip, keep trying until you land it. Once you land it, all you got to the playing board to put your mark down. Keep rotating. The rest of the group was supposed to perform squats, but I think that lasted 10 seconds. We played 5 games of tic tac toe.
We went back for some follow the leader while I tended to a scraped knee.
Closed with NoR, and Matthew 4:19 – “Follow me, and I’ll make you fishers of men.” In my preblast I mentioned how our kids follow in our footsteps. Our kids are sponges. The soak up everything we do. I urged the PAX to be the light, the example our kids need. And urged the 2.0s to do the same. When they go back to school, be the helper, pick up the lunchroom, papers, help a teacher, etc.
It was great to get out of house, let the kids run. It had been rainy, cold, and dreary. Trying to think up a workout that would keep kids engaged, and not bore the PAX proved much harder that I thought. While I think the kids had fun, the PAX didn’t really get a workout, but either way it was a little time spent with the kids, and my wife said both me and Honeybee came home in a better mood. So maybe it was a mental workout.
Squeeze them tight, they are only young once.
