A while back (seems so long ago now), it was a beautiful 50-degree day with the sun shining when Double Pump, Site Q for The Nest, offered a simple trade; I would Q his site sometime, and he’d Q mine (The Loco). I liked the idea, no hunting for a Q, and trading a favor. Easy-peasy.
0530 today, the alarm goes off. 1 degree outside. I’m not your standard F3 guy, I’m not one of those HIMs who are proud to be out in the snow and ridiculous wind chills. My only posts this week were Tuesday (Site Q) and today (Q). I even skipped Jolly Rancher’s 1-thousandth post yesterday just because of the weather. I did not want to go today. Pulled into the parking lot hoping to see zero cars and turn around, but I saw 3 or 4 (or more???) pre-runners finishing up. Crazies. I guess we are doing this today.
Big Bird stayed after the run to join me and Site Q Double Pump. This is my second workout in 2 weeks where only 3 attend – the Site Q, the Q, and someone who didn’t have to be there. I shake my head, tune into a positive attitude, and off we go.
I decided on-the-spot to do a sort of Dora/AMRAP thing. After we run around the loop to warm up (but we didn’t get warm), we stop at the portico (Big Boys on wooded benches is warmer than Big Boys on frozen pavement) and I come up with the plan:
Let’s work all the major groups and use a runner (or 2) as the push. 3 sets of 3 exercises, each done 3 x. We had time to get 2 supersets (3x3x3) in the hour. First was Squats, Big Boys, and Merkins. Big Bird and Double Dump did the first 3×3, then we rotated to me and Double Pump pairing up on the second round, and me and Big Bird on the third. That way none of us got too lonely in the frozen gloom.
We did the first one, then another superset: Lunges, LBC’s, and Plank. In that order, each exercise 3x.
We had time for a bit more than a half-mile cooldown to finish right on time. Sometimes it feels strange to do COT in a very small group, but it occurred to me in the moment that praying with these HIM’s would be my favorite part today, so pray we did.
So I did something I didn’t want to do to start my day today, ended the hour with something I love to do, and it looks like today will indeed be a good day. Maybe this is what it’s all about.
SYITG (above 20 degrees only, unless it’s Tuesday or I’m the Q).
