What a day. My favorite day of the year. And this year’s variant may have been the best yet. Great food, great friends and family, supported a great cause, and great times. Sometimes people say you wish you knew you were in the “good old days” before they were over. This is the type of day where I know we are smack in the middle of a good old day and there just aren’t enough hours in the day to make it last longer. Let’s jump into it:
The people.
Throughout the course of the day, we had close to 100 people, mostly F3 HIM, their M’s and 2.0’s. The people is what makes today such a special day. I could make the best food in the world but without the people to share it with, it would be pretty boring. Thanks to all of you who came, cooked, tossed frisbee, danced, slid down the water slide, etc. Fellowship at an all time high.
The fun.
We had a waterslide that kept the kids busy/entertained all day. The backyard ninja course and trampoline was also full all day by the 2.0’s. The front yard was occupied by HIM tossing bean bags and zipping frisbees in what ended up being some pretty competitive games. Our DJs kept the party rocking until about 10PM with some pretty incredible dancing, featuring a Sewanee worm/breakdancing and Pouches throwing down a C walk. Our M’s had a great time joining in on all of the festivities.
The food and cooks!
I made 2 briskets and bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. Boy RD made stuffed mushrooms. HBK made pork butt. Sump Pump made his infamous Filet Mignon sliders. Flexseal made Rib Roast with a white horseradish sauce. Lightfoot made cow tongue and alligator tail. Beans made chicken quesadillas. Brisket made pork and venison ribs. Crowdstrike made chicken thighs. Mr Krabs made breakfast casserole and jalepeno poppers. Viking made chicken wings, 2 ways (sauced and dry rubbed). Side Swipe made Zarandeado Shrimp. My mom (hospital name: Marianne) made BBQ shrimp. Natty Light made smoked bologna chubs. Lights Out made meatloaf. D List made loaded baked potato salad. Viking and Pouches donated kegs of Cheetah and Fat Tire to help with fundraising efforts. Tall Tale made a homebrew Hefeweizen, complete with custom labels. Some dips/chips were provided as well (Cowboy caviar, salsa, Quacamole).
All of the food was incredible. Guys really pulled out the big guns and made some of the most incredible food. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I’d be lying if I wasn’t biased towards my 12-hour slow cooked brisket! If you want to cook next year, let me know and we can get you in on the action!
The cause.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone, between the $25 entry fees and the $2.50 draft pours, we were able to pull together a total of $1,351 for Safe Passage, to help end the cycle of sexual exploitation and trafficking!
