Yesterday 21 pax (including two 2.0s) turned out in the bitter January cold to complete “The Sharrett,” a memorial workout in honor of U.S. Army Pfc. David H. Sharrett II. The workout was held on January 16 – the 18th anniversary of his death during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sharrett belonged to the 1-32 CAV, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division – The Bandits.

Following a 3 mile pre-ruck to the J-town 9/11 memorial, the Q read a summary of the combat operation that resulted in Sharrett’s death.

Following some stretching and side-straddle-hops, pax dove into the workout. Reps were modified from 20 up to 27, the age of Pfc. Sharrett at the time of his death. Following each set of 27, pax ran around the outer loop of the memorial.

At the same time, our brothers from F3 Cape Fear in Wilmington, N.C. were completing The Sharrett as well.

In addition to F3 pax, members of the U.S. Secret Service Counter Assault Team were also tackling The Sharrett during their morning workout at The White House.

Each man who completed The Sharrett earned a patch commemorating the life and service of Dave, an avid surfer and Apocalypse Now appreciator.

Thank you men, for honoring the memory of my cousin and my family.
