As I sit here contemplating my sanity for even considering working out in negative degree wind chills and 0 degree temps consider this for a moment:
- You’ll burn more calories – As the body works harder to regulate its core temperature among the elements, you’ll burn a few more calories during your wintry workout.
- You’ll strengthen your heart – Cold weather also makes the heart work harder to distribute blood throughout the body.
- You’ll drink more water – Drinking water before, during and after cold-weather workouts helps maintain peak performance, protect the body from injury and stay warm from start to finish. Don’t wait to feel thirsty to hydrate!
- You’ll build a tolerance for the freezing elements – No nuggets of wisdom here, think of it like building your tolerance up to drink five bourbons instead of one.
- You’ll feel happier and more energized – I am not saying you’re going to be happy with me in the moment but later in the morning you’re going to say “that Backdraft isn’t as big of an a#$hole as I thought!”
Come on out to the #themutt to say hello to our old friend Murph and maybe play a little baseball in the snow. SYITG.
