Pax,
F3Nation is expanding all the time. New cities, new AOs, new PAX. Listen here for a very good F3 expansion discussion: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/f3-nation/id1218921251?i=1000440237819
As the new GrowQ for F3Louisville, I am excited to work with the leadership team to grow our current AOs and expand to new AOs throughout the city.
Before I go further, I’d like to thank the Shield Lock I’ve developed with Aerobie, Le Pew, Cochran, Big Bird and Abacus. Without you guys and the feedback and encouragement to jump into this role, this would not be possible. (If you are wondering what a Shield Lock is, ask one of us!)
I have several goals and ideas for this role, but need feedback, new ideas, and eventually support from a lot of you to make it happen. If you share the same passion for expanding F3Louisville, let’s talk, I can use all the help I can get.
Goal 1: At the current AO level, eliminate excuses for not posting.
We will need to hold our 5 Core Principles tight, but ask questions that push new boundaries.
5 Core Principles:
- Are free of charge.
- Are open to all men.
- Are held outdoors, rain or shine, heat or cold.
- Are led by men who participate in the workout in a rotating fashion, with no training or certification necessary.
- End with a Circle of Trust.
Example 1: Start time of workouts is not a core principle. Could we reach a broader audience if we had some workouts that went at later times (6:15-7:00, or some other time)?
Example 2: F3 is open to all men.
How do we break down the barrier of the guy with “bad knees” or a “bad back” that can’t run and do burpees and never comes out because he thinks he can’t do it? (Aerobie is killing it right now with his modifications due to his herniated disks and BlueOps is taking off. How do we do more of this kind of thing?)
How do we age up? Could we encourage our Dad’s and/or other older men to start a Silver Bullet Express (comes from Freed to Lead book) for guys over 60?
I am sure there are other great ideas out there, I just need you to give them to me!
Goal #2 = Expand to new AOs around and into the city.
The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.
As you read the rest of this post, ask yourselves whether F3 is much more than a workout group, and think about how our workouts serve a larger purpose. During CoT’s, we frequently hear the Q and others say they started because of the workouts, and they keep coming back because of the fellowship. This shows we need more MALE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP throughout Louisville. South End, West End, Downtown, Buechel, Highlands.
It is true that worthwhile things are hardly ever easy, and most of these areas are not convenient to our current PAX. But, if we are leaders, then we have to take this opportunity to others. There are HIM’s in these areas who might not even know it yet, and all they need is the opportunity and some encouragement.
I don’t believe we should start AO’s in these areas and hope people come. I believe we have to work with churches, organizations, or community programs to introduce F3 to them. We will only commit resources if they want us there. We will get the seed started and help them grow with the intent of having the men of the new site lead their AO on a regular basis.
Next Steps:
All Pax – Keep headlocking!
SiteQs – make sure Disclaimers and calls for modifications are prominent. Encourage PAX on the DL to come back out and participate any way they can.
Fungi –
- I am looking to get in front of Men’s Clubs at St Marys/Bernadette to increase Pleasantville. If you know an easy way in, let me know.
- I want to target the St Martha, Pius, Barnabas area. I believe they have a strong men’s presence and that gets us closer to other key area like the Highlands, Newburg, Mt Washington, etc. If you know of someone in those parishes, let me know.
Hopefully some of these ideas gets your mind thinking about new areas (do you want to take this to the area of town you grew up in?? Do you know someone who could be the mustard seed??), new growth ideas, and new audiences you think we can reach.
Not only do we need ideas, but also PAX taking action. If you are interested in helping, reach out to me, Nino, McAfee, or your SiteQ. We’ll get something going.
You guys are the reason this new endeavor is exciting to me and want to share what we have with men across the city.
At your service – Fungi
