BB – 7/23 Bag of Wrenches

I didn’t say it at COT, but I was absolutely humbled by the crowd at the O yesterday morning. I know it had very little to do with me, but regardless, it was cool. I had planned a workout expecting 8-12 guys and instead ended up leading 22 PAX:

Jeter, Jitterbug(R), Zartan, Face(vested), Dorothy, Pixar, OJ, Tin Cup, Paris, Lobsta, Tammy Faye Baker, Tuba, Merlin(2.0), Jinxy, Vincent (R), Pope, Violet, Splinter, Sandtrap (R), Flo Jo, Scuba Steve, Tron, Grinder (Q)

We started with a brief lap around one of the big tennis courts, then settled in for COP – SSHs, Abe Vigodas, Hillbillies, DD, Runner’s Stretch, Warrior Pose and Michael Phelps. Next, it was time to Bear Crawl. We crawled end-to-end across all four courts, stopping at the edge of each court to do SSHs as we waited for the six (or should I say, as the PAX waited for me).  Once at the other end, we repeated the same for the entire length back to the start.

Next, it was time to StarFish. We split into four groups and did two Burpees in the middle, then sprinted out to our respective corners for either 10 Merkins, 10 Copperhead Squats, 10 Mountain Climbers or 10 V-Ups. We did this full rotation multiple times, increasing the Burpees to four at one point and increasing the reps to 20 for each exercise for our last round. Highlights of the Thang were a) Having Zartan spring on us halfway through the workout that he was pretty sure his toe was broken and that’s why he was doing one-legged everythangs. Beast. b)Realizing that Face and OJ’s group was basically lapping everyone and doing 5 stations for every other group’s four. Studs. c) Being concerned that Scuba Steve was actually considering the all-meat diet that he heard about on a podcast. Gross, dude. Don’t do it.

According to some intel from my covert agent Pope, I learned that there was a large truck tire in the field hockey field just on the other side of the courts. So, our next thing was some tire flipping. We paired up, and each pair would flip the tire then run to the end of the field and back and get back into line. We moved that tire the full length of the field and back. Due to my refined counting skills, I failed to realize that 23 is not an even number and so Jitterbug did all the flips by himself. Woof.

Next came my biggest mistake of the morning. Instead of just moseying back to the tennis courts for Mary, I thought, ‘let’s do it on this soft grass’. Unfortunately, immediately upon sitting down, I realized that soft grass was also extremely wet and freshly cut, so we were covered. But, since the damage was already done, I figured we might as well push through, so we completed some LBCs, Flutters, Pretzel Crunches and One-Legged Flutters along with some other exercises and stretches.

With time running out, we headed to COT, where we got to see OJ’s security towel in action and also talked a little about getting out of our own heads and focusing our energies outward.

Love the O and love all the dudes that came out to play yesterday.

Grinder Out.
