Ever heard of David Goggins, “the toughest man alive”? Whether you have or haven’t is ultimately irrelevant, but the inspiration for this Ruck came from a section of his book You Can’t Hurt Me. David Goggins is a former Navy SEAL who went through the program’s Hell Week (what seems to be unanimously described as the most physically& mentally challenging task one can imagine) three times. By NO means do I know what truly happens or what it’s like during this week. What I do know, or think I know, is at best minimum (which is a complete understatement) & what has been shared by former SEALS like Goggins. In a section of his book, Goggins explains during Navy SEAL Hell Week the candidates are placed into groups for the week known as “Boat Crews”. Throughout the week these Boat Crews continuously work together as a unit (often carrying a boat like in the picture below) to complete various exercises, PT, training, etc.

I’m going to stop right there because I don’t want to spoil the fun so here are the essentials:
WHEN:
Due to lighting we will need to actually begin the movement of the Ruck at 7:00 PM sharp. However, I encourage everyone attending to be there by 6:40 PM to:
- make sure you have anything/everything you need
- if you want to have a change of clothes/shoes at the end location we will have everything taken there once the Ruck begins
- we can go through the disclaimer & answer any questions
WHERE:
We will meet at North Posh (the common area of William F. Miles Community Garden shelter by the parking lot).
SUPPLIES:
These items are a MUST:
- Rucksack with appropriate weight (which does not include the weight of your water or any additional items held within your rucksack).
- if you weigh <150 lbs this would be 30 lbs in your Rucksack
- if you weigh >150 lbs this would be 20 lbs in your Rucksack
- Water source
- a bladder in your Ruck, preferably equipped to hold 2-3 liters
- bottles of water (not ideal, but it’s your call)
- Shoes equipped to walk through water
- Headlamp
- Reflectors of some type on your Rucksack
- Driver’s License
- Cash or Debit/Credit Card (the amount is at your digression)
These items are OPTIONAL (although recommended):
- Gloves (like you would use at a WO)
- Extra clothing because when we are done with the water portion of the Ruck, you will be given the opportunity to change out of any wet gear to dry gear you have with you for the duration of the Ruck.
- a change of shoes
- a change of socks
- a change of shirt
- a change of shorts/pants/underwear
- Ziplock bags (whatever size you want)
- if you choose to bring any of the items above or your cell phone, wallet, etc. these will be essential to keep the items dry while in your Rucksack
- Feel free to bring food (i.e. protein bars, goo, etc.)
- Goggles
- Floaties
- Puddle Jumper
- Bug Spray
The Ruck will end at The GOAT 🐐where we will enjoy some quality 2rdF. I suggest having an idea of how to get back to your car by way of Uber/Lyft (which should be relatively cheap because you’ll be 2.7 miles away) or if you want to arrange with a fellow PAX meeting at The GOAT beforehand to leave a car & ride to North Posh together. You’re grown men…figure it out.
Neither Huggies or I have ever Qd one of the monthly Ruck Events so we’re both really pumped about the opportunity to Q this one. Ultimately, we hope this Ruck challenges you in some way & you have fun doing it because if not then what’s the point? If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach out to Huggies or me.
Huggies & Nino
P.S. If you haven’t read or listened to (which I did) David Goggins’s book You Can’t Hurt Me I strongly encourage you to check it out.
