This was the second go-round of the Heavy Blender at the Mutt.  I threw the idea out to the Mutt pax a few weeks ago and it was pretty much unanimous that we wanted to create our own version.  Quick aside, the beauty of F3 is that we can all show up, established pax, DR pax, FNGs, and hit the ground running.  No real equipment is required.  We use the ground, a couple $0.50 cinder blocks, an occasional jungle gym, and get just as good of a beatdown as those high dollar sweat barns.  But that said it is sometimes fun to do something a little different.  Variety is the spice of life!  Or is it Life is like a box of chocolates.  Whatever it is…

Alright so here’s what you really came here for:

Pax: (20) Geppetto (Q), Buschhhhh, Snowman, Glen Ross, Blueprint, Meatball, Cornbread (R), Larry Flynt, Rih Rih, Tureen, Old Bay, OJ, Waterboy, Plumb Bob, Sump Pump, Pope, PED, Fridge, Fall Guy (R x2), No Show

Zoo Gear: Blue Nike tank, black Nike hoops shorts, Soloman XA Enduro trail shoes, Milwaukee work gloves, sopping wet doo rag

Weather Conditions:  Ideal

COP

As I gave the disclaimer and described the stations we’d hit, the pax did some mild stretching OYO.  As stated above, planning  for a Heavy can be a challenge since it is just a guess as to how many pax to expect.  I figured the most I might see was 30.  I wanted  to work in pairs so I prepared 15 stations.  Keep this in mind if you plan to Q the Heavy in the future.  With 20 pax present I just eliminated 5 of the “easy” stations and we were off.  The following are the stations I had set up.

heavy workout

Won’t go into detail on all of these.  Most are pretty self explanatory.  Station one was a lap around the school partner carrying a weighted 8ft ladder.  One lap is right at 1/4 mile so I anticipated it would take about 2.5 minutes on average to complete.  Once back that pair would push the rest of the pax to rotate to the next station.  Rinse and repeat.

So ten stations completed with maybe a minute or two to spare before 6:15, the laps obviously took longer than I expected, but perfect for the 20 on hand.  We had time to do one set of Catalina wine makers to completely smoke what was left of our shoulders and tris.

Want to give a big shout out to Backdraft for helping me create a bunch of the stupid stuff we were using today, to Skid for donating the tires, to Worm and his Heavy crew at the Vet that I personally have been hitting on Monday for giving us the inspiration to get this going at the Mutt, Sump Pump and Old Bay for helping set up.  Several other for bringing equipment and even chipping in a few bucks to offset the cost of making some of these items.  The Heavy workouts can be a lot more work for the Q to set up than our typical workouts.  Need to assemble enough equipment that we keep our core principle of “open to all men”. And since we want to be able to accommodate everyone that shows up…whatever that number may be Qs need to be creative.  At the Mutt we are lucky enough to now have a locked storage area to keep our heavy stuff.  We are still in the infancy of building up our arsenal but so far so good.  Really looking forward to what this thing turns in to!

Geppetto out!
