helen keller quote

For most of us, the school year is in full swing.  Homework sessions at the Kilo house can go a couple of different ways.  My mood and focus has just as much to do with how it goes as my kids attention span.  Usually a combination of inattention from both of us is a recipe for disaster.  This school year I have tried to make it a point to be patient and attentive during homework time with my 3rd grader.  That being said, her current assignment is to choose a “Who was” book and construct a book report to deliver to the class.  There were options like Michael Jordan, Buzz Aldren, and Jackie Robinson.  Much to my initial dismay my daughter chose Helen Keller.  For the past several nights she has been reading the book aloud to me and it has caused me to do some of my own research on Helen Keller.  What a marvelous person she was.  Talk about overcoming all obstacles, Helen was left blind and deaf very early in life.  She overcame all of this to fight for rights of handicap individuals, write books, graduate with a bachelors degree.  All of this was done in a period when women and the handicap were cast aside by many.  Her story speaks to perseverance and fortitude to achieve success.  I encourage all of you to read just a bit about Helen Keller.  Take something from her story, it may help you conquer whatever you’re currently dealing with.  I know its helped me!
