2020 LeapYear 30K Parklands Ruck

2/28/2020-2/29/2020

The first-ever Parklands end-to-end 30K Ruck! Wouldn’t have been possible without help from Snowman, Metermaid, Handbook & those who helped with the carpool. 🙏🏼

Getting HardCommits is like pulling teeth. Very excited and scared when we pulled up to the Startex and there were Hims everywhere! My first fear however, was that we wouldn’t have enough room to get everyone back!!!

I decided to do things a little backwards as I figured that by the end everyone would want to do nothing but leave. So we circled up for roll call and COT and welcomed one crazy FNG (later to be dubbed Hog-Tied).

Here’s the list of all the guys who thought this Horrible Idea would be a good one:

Metermaid
Snowman
FNG-Hog Tie
Rosie
Sticky
Plumb Bob
Dauber
Pew pew
Sump Pump
Handbook
My Boy Blue (R)
Yoshi
Fanny Pack (R)
VALDEZ
Mr Kotter
Deflator
Skid
ToolTime (Q)

I was worried about what we may talk about for the 30K/6 hours; but as always the mumble chatter flowed all night long.

Just before the start we got hit with a Blizzard (Awesome)

We set sail a few minutes after 9pm. I shared a few fun facts (provided by Yogi).

We made it to the midway point and did what guys have to do after about ten miles of Rucking in the cold.

Continued on to the parking lot at Seatonville Rd where Handbook had a refreshing surprise for us (beverages and his kids protein bars).

We did our best to huddle in front of Handbooks headlights for a pic (twice; as My Boy Blue was in the men’s room getting warm I think).

Then we tried fitting all 18guys in the men’s room huddled around the hand dryer for warmth (wish we had a pic of that).

Then we headed off for the last 6.6 miles which should be a piece-of-cake. WRONG

Most of us were now freezing cold after stopping for refreshment. Then, we realized that somehow the Parklands managed to fit about 12 miles of mountains and turns into only 6.6 miles….someone much smarter than Me will have to figure out that math.

I helped head up the Six and when we arrived at the Endex, the Gang was all still there (probably due to the high $ beverages provided by Metermaid)

We laughed, got laughed at, named our FNG Hog-Tied and then quickly headed out to get to our warm homes.

I wish I had time to share all the great stories that were shared along the way: but that’s why we Ruck.

Look for the next Ruck near you and be a part of it.

(2024 2nd LeapYear Ruck)
