The BlackOps at the Garden has started gaining momentum this summer and it was my turn to Q. Seems like Friday is always the day of the week I struggle with posting so getting on the calendar is a good way to HC. I went out to the Garden the Friday before to see what Friday’s are like and to make sure nothing has changed since the last time I was there. Wide Right brought the heat so I knew I had to come up with something challenging.
I got there a bit early to set up the Thang over on the big hill (that thing sucks). When I got back to the meeting spot cars were rolling in. The lights were off due to the construction going on apparently so it was really hard to see who was pulling up. One person you couldn’t miss was Fructose. It was his second time back in the gloom and the first time I’ve seen him. He’s awesome—also he brought a home gym with him. I knew he had to modify but didn’t know his modifications required a Bowflex. Anyways by the time we were ready there were 21 PAX there to get better. It was a Friday BlackOps record for the Garden (I don’t know if that’s true but it sounds good).

It was dark so I may have missed Airplane but pretty sure he missed another one of my Qs. Or maybe he was there. Most likely not. Bob Ross wasn’t there either even though later that day Dauber was talking about how much of a beast he was during the workout—he was talking about Husky.
We ran over to the basketball court to meet Fructose who just worked with the moving company to get his Nautilus moved to the bottom of the hill. I should have wrote this backblast on Friday because I do not remember specifically what we did for COP. I’m 100% certain it includes grass grabbers, toy soldiers and downward dog and stuff. Maybe not SSHs but now that I’m 40 those aren’t off the table.
After we finished whatever we did for COP we ran over to the hill for the Thang. It was suicides on the hill with a bit of a twist. At the bottom of the hill you did whatever exercise I had listed and as the run got longer the reps got shorter-20/15/10/5. Once you finished the suicide you switched exercise. I had the great idea to Bernie Sanders back from the first cone. That lasted about 2 times before I realized there were way too many people to avoid collisions going backwards.
The list of exercises were-merkins, squats, mountain climbers, air press, lunges, plank jacks, plank jack merkins, squat jumps and gas pumps I think. I made it to squat jumps and think a few people were close to finishing but not sure. Once we got the traffic flow going it worked pretty smoothly. I did run into Meter once and he refrained from calling me a sweaty walrus so that was cool. Wouldn’t have been the first time a HIM called me that though. My playlist today was fire….not only was Snoop on it I added some No Limit songs by Master P and friends. Fructose was jamming during the session—I got a text later from Backflop talking about it. First he said he was raping during the workout—definitely meant rapping or hope he did. The other item of note is there was a constant flow of traffic because of the construction. I was impressed how Jewel knew exactly where each car was going to turn and park….that’s a skill that I hope somehow translates into his new role as Comz Q. Also one time I swore I heard a car coming but it was just Fructose running back to his Peleton.
We had a little bit of time to spare so we ran back to the parking lot and did some Tabata style Mary. V-Ups was the exercise we did and after the first round where I had the timer set backwards we really got after it.
It was a fun morning. Great weather, solid mumble chatter when we weren’t running the hill. Shout out to Tidwell who posted away from the County twice this week and to Captain Crunchberry for getting him there. I had an edited playlist with less cussing on it but figured Tidwell hears all those words when he rides bikes with Jerry Maguire to the county so I just went with it. I think we ended up covering between 2.25-2.75 miles on that hill. Shoutout to me for telling Meter Maid, Backflop and Dauber a pre run was a bad idea. Often times I’d just be a dick and let them do it, I’m showing compassion in my old age.
We finished with countorama, namorama, announcements and intentions. Closed with an Our Father and went about our day. Always humbled to lead such an awesome groups.
Until next time,
Pelican
