‘Twas two days before Christmas in the county valley, with the spirit of Festivus in the air, as our 2.0s eagerly anticipated the arrival of St. Nicholas. The scent of pine and the flickering glow of holiday lights adorned the windows of Forest Spring. While running across the Louisville landscape, we chose Meter’s watchful neighborhood vest to keep us safe during our frosty adventure called “Turkey to Tinsel,” a 100-mile running challenge culminating on Christmas night.
The festive group, including Big Bird, Pumpkin Spice, Abacus, DeVitto, One Star, Dauber, Fungi, Corduroy, Brown Water, Gisele, Captain Crunch Berry, Jolly Rancher, PK, and others, joyfully embraced the challenge, perhaps motivated just a bit by the allure of extra red and green cookies. Our collective distance covered resembled Elf’s journey through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, the sea of swirly-twirly gumdrops, and a stroll through the Lincoln Tunnel.
For the world’s best cup of coffee, Will Ferrell need not look in NYC but outside Double Dragon on Friday mornings, thanks to the often shirtless Pumpkin Spice. Big Bird, adorned with feathers shimmering in holiday colors, led the way, while Abacus ensured our route was perfectly calculated for maximum effort at the chilly 4amhour. DeVitto, the town’s mayor, shared HOA updates, the echoes of honkey lady’s pool-buying fury resonating through the streets.
One Star, with a VQ to boot, led the Merry Milers, pushing the metaphorical sleigh through the holiday adventure. The mysterious Corduroy, never seen in person, may just be the embodiment of the Christmas spirit. Brown Water, with a flask of hot cocoa in hand, provided sips of warmth during the other 12 days of Christmas challenge. Captain Crunch Berry carried a bag of mixed berries, ready for a post-shin-splits recovery boost.
PK kicked jingle balls to reach the 100-mile mark, with the ultimate Holiday Jolly – Rancher leaving surprises along his routes in the form of candy cane flavors. As for me, Gisele, I always look good running, and while Christmas is typically a great time for my football team, I can’t help but miss Tom.
In all seriousness, I thoroughly enjoyed this Holiday Thanksgiving to Christmas Turkey 2 Tinsel challenge. To the great friends mentioned here and many more, thanks to F3 for the peace, joy, and happiness. Merry Christmas, you filthy animals—I love you all.
