So in three days and really just 2 posting days (Thursday/ Saturday), F3 Louisville collected and donated 58 coats to the St John Center for Homelsss Men. In addition to the coats an entire box of face warmers was donated (50). So in the midst of the coldest stretch of below freezing weather in the history of the city- yes nearly 2 straight weeks of freezing weather, F3 Louisville stepped up and helped other men in desperate need.
When we got there and told them the number of coats, 3 of the volunteers came out to check it out it. My Tahoe was completely filled- and they were shocked (I had emailed them and told them we would have 25 or 30). We actually had to go around back and bring in the back door as they were worried it would start a swarm if we came in he front- as the demand was significant- these men needed these coats.
As one lady volunteer sorted the coats, she actually cried and thanked the group for helping those that are often forgotten. Another just said God Bless and thank you. All of you guys did this and it’s amazing to see the power of this group- working to help others in need. Some of the volunteers remembered the fall donation as well, so it looks like the St John Center will be a great place for us to continue to help these men.
I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Truly amazing work in such short time. Working out is great, but there is so much more we can do. Thank you for everyone’s kindness and donations. One of the volunteers told me that our donation was life saving for some of these men.
Humbled.
