As I said in my pre-blast, as Site Q for the Hurt, it is up to me to recruit and schedule Qs for Saturdays at the Mutt. I struck out this week. To be fair, several of our usual cast of characters of Qs were running in the marathon doing awesome work for various charities, so I had to take this one for the team. To be honest I didn’t want it. I’ve had an exhausting week as well as battling a head cold the last couple days. This normally would have made for an easy decision to fartsack. So with no creative juices flowing to come up with a challenging workout, I decided I’d figure this one out on the fly with a little help from whoever was lucky enough to join me. It actually went much better than I expected. I know I was smoked at the end and may try running back a version of it again soon!
PAX: (6) Geppetto Q, Glen Ross, Deuce, Yogi, Snowman, Cornbread
Weather: 50*ish, Beautiful blue skies. Pretty much perfect morning.
Gear: Just some stuff. I don’t have anything fancy enough to write about.
7:00-We slightly modified right off the bat due to the HT plant sale setting up in our usual corner. We mosied down to the prayer garden for COP
COP
Kendra Newmans (little/big, forward/back)
Abe Vigodas IC x 15
SSH IC x 50
Downward Dog/Cobra stretch/Runners stretch
The Thang:
I told the pax I was feeling a little under the weather and we were all going to get to take the Q for a bit. I did kind of set the template of how this would go. Using the reflection path we would take a lap around and stop at four spots along the way. The prayer garden, the back hill, the backstretch, and the monkey bars.
Lap 1 (Geppetto)
Coupon curl 45’s
Bearcrawl up hill 5 boyos at top/ crawl-bear down 5 squats at bottom (x3)
Shoulder taps ICx15
Pull ups x15
…and at this point YHC must have blacked out for most of the rest of the workout but you get the point. Each pax led a lap as Q and we did whatever they directed at each stopping point. A few highlights/lowlights. Cornbread introduced us to a new form of merkin, The Archer Merkin. This will become a regular. The pax liked that one! We also determined that Pickle Pounders need to be done only in the dark. Six grown men doing them on the sidewalk as various M’s and children began to show up for the flower sale seemed a bit awkward. I don’t like Supermans. We went strong right up until the end with just enough time to squeeze in some Mary to finish it off.
COT
Count off. Name-o-rama. Announcements of Qs NEEDED AT THE MUTT. Free pass this weekend, but need Q’s for the Hurt all of May, starting with Derby Day next weekend. Really appreciate the pax today not only showing up but willing to take lead and help me get through this one. Prayers for the Kraft family and for Dr. Sangali. Let’s go out and make this a great day!
