For me, it always starts with an idea. At some point, a few days or so before I’m set to Q, inspiration strikes. Perhaps because I’m looking for it but other times something hits my Bird brain and I get excited to share it with my brothers, whomever they happen to be on the day in question. The inspiration would be “The Business,” a song by Tiesto that I Shazammed because it got me moving. Then I thought, that would be a great way to start a workout; going through something tough at the start to let dudes know it was time to get down to business. Furthermore, Viking had a Q at The Stable a few days prior where he was boasting about a playlist of some sort. I’m sure it was epic but the only piece that was shared on Mumble Chatter was PAX working no out to Gangnam Style (sad I missed that one…) So I thought, what if I let PAX pick their favorite songs that get them fired up, share them with the group and we would do workout to said songs. I tried to insinuate as much on the pre blast but do like to keep the mystery alive. There would be 7 other dudes that would join me on this Thursday to find out what it was all about.
The PAX: Abacus, Dauber, Pelican, Double Pump, Hoo Dai, One Star, WILDflower, BigBird (Q)
0530 and Mumble Chatter was already in full force. Finally, giving in to a Mutt start time of 0531, disclaimer was given and off we would go for a warm up mosey(s) around the island, picking up the pace with each of our 3 trips.
Song 1: BigBird: The Business by Tiesto: for the duration of the song. 1 burpee, run 30 yards, 1 burpee and run back, increasing our burpees by one each time. Grab up our coupons and mosey to the playground for…
Song 2: Pelican: Renegade by Styx: for the duration of the song, 5 pull-ups, 10 merkins. When you get to 20 and 40 you head out for about a 50 yard mosey and back to rinse and repeat-o. Recover, grab our coupons and head to the steep driveway behind the Eagle’s Nest for…
Song 3: Dauber: Paper Rings by Taylor Swift: Now, the ask was for songs that get your blood pumping. I would normally think this would be a strange song choice to accomplish that task but if you know Dauber, you know that nothing gets his blood pumping more than a dose of T-Swift! For the duration of the song we would bear crawl up the hill and crawl bear back down. Rinse and repeat-o. Recover, grabbed our coupons or obtained them from the cache to prepare for…
Song 4: Double Pump: 24K Magic by Bruno Mars: Apparently this is DP’s guilty pleasure of listening enjoyment while watching kids soccer. IDK, you’ll have to ask him about that one. For the duration of the song we would Merkin over coupon 10 times and Thruster 10 times, rinse and repeat-o. Recover, and slowzey behind the chapel for…Ahacus? You got a song? Abacus: “No!” Well, alrighty then. I would call on…
Song 5: One Star: Joker and the Thief by Wolfmother: One Star clearly shares my affinity for and thought process of a “pump you up” song! For the duration of the song we would jump lunge on one end, Bernie to the other end Jump Squat and Mosey back. Here, it was evident that Abacus had missed his chance to name a song. He suggested, The Thanksgiving song (yeah…that ain’t happening), some other Christmas song and then the Dreidel song. If you’ve never witnessed Abacus trying to be cute, this was it. Finishing One Stars’ song, our legs were on fire. We would return coupons to the cache or grab up the ones we owned and headed back to the flag. As luck would have it there was time enough for one more song. Abacus was already getting in some sit ups back at the startex so YHC would fire up Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel by The Wiggles until time was called.
Circled up around the flag for Count o Rama (COR), Name o Rama (NOR) and Circle of Trust (COT). Meter wasn’t there so we hardly knew what announcements to make but we made due. Lifted up our intentions to the Sky Q and thanked this group of men for making it out with me to get a little silly and work a little hard.
Until next time…
