5.25.24 BackBlast: The Fog @ Posh

Certainly a lot to unpack from a fine morning at THE Majestic Fog (said like THE Ohio State). Started the day by getting the heart pumping with an 0600 ruck with my boys. Mumble Chatter was epic, the fog rolling across the fields was amazing and the decision to make an early start was not made in vain. As our out and back came to a close, and as 0700 approached, we were welcomed with a few cool things. WET SACK making his return, in the circle, ready to get going. Mr. Roper rolling in after his hiatus, picking up like he never left! (welcome back boys!!) And lastly, there was a dude none of recognized but we were quick to engage with. Come to find out, Tyler, found us online. He was looking to get into the rucking culture and when he did a search, he somehow discovered F3 Nation, read up, researched, found F3 Louisville saw Posh and decided to come out and give it try! Welcome out brother and great job pushing through! 7 other dudes showed up, ready to work!

The PAX: Little Jery (R), Jitterbug (R), Dauber, Mr. Roper, Wax-On, WET SACK, Limp Bizkit, Jersey Mike (FNG), Meter Maid, Tudors, BigBird (Q)

Now, to preface, my pre blast spoke of running back my first ever Q…at Posh…on Derby Day. That truly was the intention and trust me, the flavor was still there. But your Bird has come a long way since May of 2018, inspiration always strikes in the days leading up and not one…I repeat, not one of my Q’s has ever been exactly the same. Still, I felt like this one was pretty well planned out and at least 2 of the Thangs were near identical. One thing I didn’t plan for…..METER MAID!! YHC made it as far as Pigeon Stretches in COP where Meter, doing the math quickly in his head, says, “wait, wait, wait. This exercise became popular here AFTER 2018 so there’s no way this could be from your first Q!” From that point on, everything that was done was questioned and yes, only a fraction was the same.

Mosey back to the Startex for Tabata: Original Q & Dr. Dre song the same, Burpees and Jump Lunges were different.

Recover and mosey to, up and over the bridge for the next Thang (Not from original Q). YHC was driving in the car listening to 91.9 WFPK the day before and the song Too Much Pressure by The Selectors came on. This was such a terribly good song, I had to share it with the PAX. It repeats the word “Pressure” a total of 42 times so I figured it’d be a good idea to hold plank for the entirety of the 3 minute and 10 second song and drop for a Merkin every time we hear the word pressure. It was silly, difficult and had to seem pretty darn odd from the walkers passing by, spitting our odd, makeshift circle.

Recover and mosey to the fountain for the next Thang: (Identical to the Original. 1970’s classic rock playlist…different) Partner up and partner one bear crawls down the walkway and crab walks back up. While that’s happening, partner 1 is getting in an AMRAP of 10 step ups or box jumps and 20 dips. I’d briefly like to share a quote and words of encouragement Jitterbug said to Tyler, our new guy as he was putting in work, sucking wind but not giving up: It never gets easier…you just get better! That’s one we should all keep in our mind palace! Love me some JBug!! At this point it was evident that enough was had for 2 rounds before your Bird took the hint…it was time to move on.

Move on we did to the splash park area. While we were waiting on the “6” we did a little Mary: BBSUs, Flutter Kicks and a nice little round of “Boat, Canoe.” None of this was from the original which once more spawned some interesting conversation. Mostly it was Dauber and Meter Maid arguing about…well, whatever…

Wax-On, fantastic Site Q that he is, stayed with our new guy and picked him up as they caught back up with us. Tudors had to peel off, we all recovered and slowzeyed about 30 yards to playground for…

The Final Thang: This was from the original and as it turns out is one of my favorite things to have us do. It’s tough, it’s nearly nonstop and we’re all putting in work at the same time in an effort to achieve the same thing…together. It would be an EMOM (every minute on the minute) of 5 pullups, 10 merkins and 15 squats for 12 minutes. One thing that was different and a thing that I had found and incorporated over time was a motivational soundtrack to go along with our work. Dauber chimes in “classic Bird” and that gets me fired up to bring this thing on home. The mumble chatter went silent as the Billy Alsbrooks speaks to us about being a champion, fighting for what you want and putting God first. YHC called out round to round until “last one, best one” was proclaimed. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Time!

Head back to and circle up around the flag. COR, NOR and COT. Gave Tyler his new identity. We had a lot to pull form but ultimately Jersey Mike was where we would land as he used to work for an athletic apparel store. Made some announcements and lifted up our intentions. Thanked the Sky Q for this group of men, this beautiful Saturday that he served us up with and closed us out with an Our Father. What an amazing journey these last 6 and half years has been and I look forward to all of the adventures I’ve yet to experience with all my friends!

Until next time…

BigBird
