I receive a rare call from Pelican yesterday evening at about 5:30. He directly leads in with, “I have some unsolicited advice for you.” In my head, I immediately used an expletive thinking, what now?? It ended up not being as bad as his comment led me to believe it might have been. He then shared the story of Meter Maid’s Q instructions from Tuesday where odds and even were explained and then questioned and then explained again where it was further determined that odds and evens may not have even applied? I don’t know all the specifics and considering the source, you definitely had to be there. Pelican’s ask was that I incorporate an odds and evens somewhere in the mix so those that were there both days would get the joke. Pelican concluded the call bay saying he didn’t think he was going to show but still thought it would be funny. He didn’t show…Who did show, however (mostly coming in hot due to the garbage trucks (not a typo – there were actually two garbage trucks that were coming up the street, stopping at houses and ultimately pulling into the park at zero dark thirty) were 11 HIM and 2 HI 2.0s ready to see what this game of baseball was all about.
The PAX: Colonel Klink, Rain Dancer (2.0), Mannequin, Ferb (2.0), Rap Ninja, White Bread, Lockbox, Honeycomb, Honey Do, Portabucket, Virginia Slims, Layover, Lockbox (thanks for your travels!), SQL, BigBird (Q)
We started at about Mutt o’clock due to the aforementioned garbage trucks. Disclaimer was given and we would immediately plank it up for the song, ‘The Business’ by Tiesto cuz, well…it was time to get down to business. During the song we would Merkin, stretch out the calves, hammies and quads followed by Plank Jacks and Mountain Climbers. Off we would go for a long mosey to the back of the park by the ball fields. We circled up once more to get in a few more COP exercises. Short little mosey from there to enter into the baseball field. To my surprise and enjoyment, the field is in tip top shape with an infield that didn’t get muddy even after all the rain yesterday with the bases still firmly planted in their spots. Went on to explain…
The Thang: Now, try to follow along with me for a minute. This was to acquiesce to Pelican’s request. From our count off earlier, I had PAX recall if their number was odd or even. Odds would be on one team and Evens would be on the other. We would go 9 inning of the exercises. Both teams had to complete 9 innings. Odd teams would first complete innings 2, 4, 6 & 8 before doing innings 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9. Then Even teams would first complete innings 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9 before doing innings 2, 4, 6 & 8. With groans from the PAX and White Bread saying something to the effect like, “not another one of these…,” I told them that odds and evens really didn’t matter, Pelican just thought it would be funny. Now onto the the real work. 1 inning would be this: run to right field and do 10 jump squats. Run to center field and 5 WMDs (weapons of mass destruction). Run to left field and do 10 jump lunges with each leg being a half. Run into home plate and do 5 burpees. After that, we would do an “all out” to run the bases. We would rinse and repeat this for 9 rounds or 9 innings. All put in the work and hopefully had some fun. We took notice that it appeared as though Ferb and Rain Dancer modified as necessary and were playing a different game all their own. We were almost able to complete a full game (which ended in tie, indicating that we were all winners on this day) before heading back to the flags with an “all you got” at about 0612. Once at the flags, we each did 10 BBSUs to make sure we got in some Mary before time was called.
Circled up for COR, NOR & COT. Made some announcements and lifted up the intentions that were held in our hearts. Special T-Claps go out to White Bread and Honeycomb who have completely taken ownership over this AO. There is such a positive buzz and renewed energy out there right now. Thank you fellas for stepping up to lead and for all of your hard work! White Bread did make mention and I think it’s important to note that the first FNG that shows up as a result of the awesome yard sign that is now posted at the front of the park will be named “Ace of Base,” no questions asked, because, well…they saw the sign!! It was a pleasure putting in work with you boys today!!
Until next time…
