The Pre Blast promised a run heavy Q. Knowing how your Bird is a fan of getting out for modest little jogs and in combination with the fact that the Sandlot challenge is winding down with many miles yet to be tackled, I was worried a bit about attendance. But I shouldn’t have been because my County boys support one of their own and they ain’t skeered of a little running. As a matter of fact, half of the total PAX in attendance showed up prior to for a pre run to log even more miles! Woof boys!! With agreeable temps and the sun on the rise, the ingredients were there for a perfect start to the Saturday! Four were on time for the near perfect disclaimer, three more showed up just in time for Side Straddle Hops and the last two rolled in just as Thang 1 was under way.
The PAX: Fungi (R), Dauber, PCI, Double Pump, Brown Water, Gisele, Cratchit, Captain Crunchberry, Pelican & BigBird (Q)
After a COP of some exercises and stretching, the instructions were explained for Thang #1st. I recycled this from a Q I had at the Stable where partner 1 would run fast around the lot to catch up with partner 2. Once tagged, Partner 1 would either 10, 4 count plank jack or mountain climb and then recover mosey while partner 2 would take off for their fast mosey. Rinse and repeat this for exactly 15 minutes with a running playlist that I created. Songs were: I Ran (Flock of Seagulls), Run Like Hell (Pink Floyd), Run (I’m a Natural Disaster [Gnarls Barkley]) & Born to Run (The Boss). The two late comers were watching this unfold and one in particular thought, “it would be pretty boring if this was what was going to be done the whole time,” so they decided to continue on with their mosey to log their own miles. C’mon man! You know your Bird’s more creative than that…Hard work was put in by all and no one modified it to be easier. If anything, everyone was digging deep, pushing hard and motivating each other. It was pretty special! After just under 2 miles, Thang 1 would conclude and off we would go for a recovery mosey to Mt. Mercy mile for…
Thang 2: YHC would introduce a new kind of Burpee that Meter Maid and Layover’s 2.0s laid on us at their Night Ranger, dance themed workout. It’s called the Fairy Burpee and since Meter had the Q at The O, we were both going to roll it out to see if it stuck…chances are not good…Anyway, we would get in 5 Fairy Burpees at each of the 6 telephone/light poles and stop at the top of the street, Rest Cottage. Quick little 10 count before heading onward down the street for…
The Final Thang: Run down the street for a short distance before stopping for 15 Merkins, 15, Jump Squats, & 15 BBSUs. Run a bit further and stop for 20 of each, run for a bit further with Double Pump saying he saw what was going on here…but did you? As was mentioned in the Pre Blast, there was promise of “cooling our heels.” Knowing that we were doing a bunch of running and there were dudes that even ran beforehand, I figured it’d be polite to give us a water break and had stashed a cooler full of chilled waters so that we could enjoy a brief amount of fellowship. In 3 short minutes, topics were discussed and laughter was had. Onward we would travel to go back from whence we came making sure to get in our Merkins, Jump Squats and Big Boi’s.
We’d get back to the flag right at 0800 with 4 miles logged on my activity tracker, almost as though I had it planned. Circled up for COR, NOR & COT. Meter wasn’t there so we did our best to remember all of the announcements and finally, lifted up our intentions to the Sky Q.
Things I know to be true: Gisele is an even better Site Q the second time around! He even brought the flag!! PCI is a silent assassin! Fungi was affected by the Spice Index! Dauber’s batteries never die! Brown Water’s an excellent partner and I’ll be his “wing” man anytime! Cratchit goes from the shallow to the deep end of the pool by showing up and showing out to log +7 miles on a Saturday! Double Pump is a fan of the Fairy Burpees and knows why he’s so good at them! Captain Crunchberry is the best accountability partner I know! And T-Claps to Pelican for running more consecutive miles that he has in a long time (his words not mine), also with 7+!!
It was a great morning to be out at The County and I appreciate you fellas for your friendship and for coming out to hopefully get just a bit better…maybe even 2%.
Until next time…
