This is my favorite time of year! The cooler weather, the changing of the leaves…. Halloween! By far my favorite holiday! Maybe it’s the spookiness of it all. Maybe it’s being able to step into another character and be whomever you want, if only for a short while. Follow this up with one of my favorite F3 events: Ghost Q Week! I love having fun with it and giving myself the challenge of flexing my creativity. The only thing that’s not a guarantee: having a Site Q tap me on the shoulder to call me out of the crypt. Fortunately, WILDflower DM’s me at the end of September with some flattery and asks would I want to slide in to be the Ghost Q… not just on a Thursday at The County, the place I call home, but on the actual day of Halloween!!! Leggo!! Before I say hell yeah, my Bird braid was already working overtime on what I could do, where it would be and what decorations I would pull out of my yard to create a spooky experience for anyone that cared to join me on this day.
The PAX: Brown Tail (R), Audible, Wiche, Pizza, E -Z Pass, WILDflower & BigBird as the ghost Q
Decorations: Girl on a swing, 7′ Ghost crypt keeper, upper torso of a hanged zombie, four pieces of a metal gate to sub for cones, strobe light, solar powered spotlight and a fog machine compliments of Backflop.
I’ll spare you the details of the setup but just know that 1) 0445 would be my start time, 2) rarely does a plan go off as one intends but I was pretty proud of this one.
Setup complete, fog machine rolling fog through the entrance and your Bird waiting in an unconventional start spot with my skull mask and F3 hoodie on. PAX followed the directions on the piece of cardboard and spotted the Ghost Q waiting in the makeshift haunted yard. I would greet them with a mosey and a waive of the hand signaling them to follow me. We’d get in about a tenth of a mile warmup and circle back up in the haunted yard for COP. Stripped the mask, announced myself as the Ghost Q and shred the hoodie cuz it was almost 70 degrees on October 31st and…it was toasty!
COP and then The Thang: 10 Burpees, Zombie crawl about 30 yards, 30 Merkins and Zombie Crawl back. Next, 20 IC Mountain Climbers, Frankenstein Walk, 20 Groiners, Frankenstein Walk back. Following that, 20 Jump Squats, Werewolf Crawl, 20 Jump Lunges (each leg’s a half), Werewolf Crawl back. Finally, 10 V-ups, World War Z Run, 20 IC American Hammers, World War Z Run back. That would complete one full round, and we would recover by getting in a mosey on the route we used to warm up. PAX would get in 3 total rounds before time was called. WOOF Boys!!! We’d slowzey back to the flag for COR, NOR and COT. We made some announcements (CONVERGENCE 7& EXTREME WEEK) and lifted up our intentions.
I love F3 for everything that it is: how it’s changed my life, how I’ve made countless friends, how it allows me the ability to do anything I can dream up. This was a fun one for me and I appreciate you boys for smashing the alarm clock on this day and getting a little spooky!
