Toad reaches out to me on Monday asking if I could pick up the Q on this, the 4th of July, 249th year of our Independence. See, he’s been doing something special trying to line up Q’s on his Fridays for those that are in the 1000 post club. Not that I keep track but I guess the post count adds up when you’ve been getting after it for almost 8 years. I was humbled by the request and fired up to acquiesce.
We had 5 show up but wait…what’s this? Lockbox pulling in, going around the circle with windows down and Lee Greenwood’s, God Bless the U.S.A. blaring from his car’s sound system. As if there was any doubt, it was now confirmed that this was going to be a good morning at Vets!
The PAX: EKG (R), Brisket, Lockbox, Toad, Ricky Bobby (DR from Toledo) and your Bird.
Did a couple laps and some stretching to get loose before…
The Thang: With a hand selected playlist of all the 4th of July goodies, the goal was to get in 1776 total reps. 10 exercises over 5 rounds with 35 reps for each. After each round we would get in two laps where each counted as a rep. If all this was completed it would total to 1750, leaving 16 reps of something at the end. The exercises were: Merkins (of course), squats, Dips, Jump Lunges, Curls, Kettle Bell Swings, Carolina Dry Docks, Jump Squats, Chest Press and Freddy Mercury’s.
This would prove to be a little ambitious as 45 minutes wasn’t quite enough time to get it all in…except of course if you’re a machine like EKG. Work was put in, sweat was flowing and the mumble chatter was on point!
Now, if you made it this far, hang with me a little longer. At 0614, in the vein of Steve-O’s “never let em know your next move,” I sneakily pulled a mortar cake from my car, set it at the entrance to the park and lit that thing on fire. The Boss Hog, Like a Boss mortar cake rewarded us with 15 a shot, mini fireworks display. It…was…FANTASTIC!! And hands down the best conclusion to a beatdown I’ve ever had as a Q!!…Until of course after less than 30 seconds later 2 of J-Town’s finest rolled in toot sweet! I quickly approach the officer to thwart any additional concern and the officer says, “was that you lighting off fireworks?” I say, “yeah, is that bad??” She says, “well, it’s a little early…” I quickly apologize, grateful that she didn’t exit the car with hands cuffs. All was good and no arrests were made!
We circled up for COR, NOR, and COT. Announcements were made, namely the Capture the Flag Ruck happening next Saturday. Join the channel and sign soon so Brisket can put you on a team. Best rucking event of the year so don’t miss it! We made some prayer requests but most importantly, please keep F3 Pop Up (Mark Carothers) in your prayers. He’s been fighting hard for a long time to beat his cancer and unfortunately he’s been in the hospital with end of life fast approaching. Please Lord let him feel your warm embrace and welcome him into your loving Kingdom when You decide to call him home.
So thankful for this gift of F3 and the brothers that I got to share the start to the day with!
Until next time…BigBird
