Zima said it best in his pre-blast – when you mix Jolly Rancher and Zima together it’s almost better than PB&J. What a fantastic mash-up — it’s like it was meant to be. Or, perhaps it was just a ploy by Zima to make sure he didn’t show up to Q a workout by himself – so he conned me into co-Q’ing so at least there was guaranteed to be a second PAX. That couldn’t be further from the truth as it was clear that The Mutters will never ghost Zima a second time in the rain as we had 15 PAX present and accounted for at The Extender.
This was my VQ at The Mutt – in fact, first post at The Mutt. Zima gave me the low-down in advance and walked me through the campus with an aerial map and suggested we try to do a circuit. After receipt of his map, I decided to take a personal visit before the WO so I could get a first hand view of the AO – this was Wednesday evening at the same time as lacrosse practice. As I did a walk about, the parents and coaches kept a close watch on me – fortunately, I didn’t get kicked out and the cops were not called.
With the pre-plan in place and me a bit more familiar with the grounds, it was go time.
PAX:

Zima – Co-Q
Jolly Rancher – Co-Q
Zima called the PAX together at the start and completed the standard disclaimers. Then, we were off to a short mosey to the large side parking lot for some COP lead by Zima.
COP:
Elevator Merkins
Runners Stretches
Side Straddle Hops
Imperial Walkers
At this point we were nice and loose and Zima turned the show to me for the one and only Thang.
THE THANG:
We counted off and then I asked the odds to go with Zima and evens to stay with me. Lesson learned – should have asked the PAX to remember their number, or at least whether they were an odd or even. Luckily, we managed and just split with 7 to Zima and 8 to me.
I then did a verbal walkthrough of the circuit and announced the four circuit stations that we’d hit on each lap:
1 – Playground
2 – Hill
3 – Coupon Garden
4 – Side Parking Lot
We then set off in separate directions – Zima going clockwise with his PAX and me going counter-clockwise with my PAX. The goal was to complete a lap and stop at each circuit for a workout and hopefully we’d have enough time for 3 laps. The workouts at each station included the following for each stop – first exercise was lap one, second for lap two, third for lap three:
1 – Playground: 25x Pull-Ups, 25x Dips, 25x Calf Raises
2 – Hill: 25x Jump Lunges, 25 Plank Jacks, 25 Groiners [each of these completed at the top of the hill after you bear crawled up and crawled bear down]
3 – Coupon Garden: 25x Curls, 25x Overhead Presses, 25x Halos
4 – Side Parking Lot: Partner Carry [switch half way across the lot], Partner Wheelbarrow [switch half-way across the lot], Bernie Sanders – the first two laps included a lot of modifying, which was lunge walk across the lot.
Special thanks to my group for keeping me moving during the circuit — I think I’m still licking my wounds from the Mock Star Course from last weekend!
You may be asking yourself…why would you split up a perfect combination of Zima and Jolly Rancher and go in opposite directions? That’s just insanity. The reason is because when you do have the chance to mix a little Zima and Jolly Rancher together [as when we run into each other on the laps] it’s something to savor – to enjoy. So, we enjoyed the company of one another on each lap and completed:
Lap 1 – 10x Partner Merkins
Lap 2 – 10x Burpees
Lap 3 – 10x Big Boy Sit-Ups
We barely had enough time for three laps, but not enough time for a fourth. So, we moseyed back to the flag for a 90-second Al Gore to top things off.
COT:
Count-a-rama, name-o-rama, announcements and intentions were called.
We’re all battling this thing called life and I encouraged the PAX to be vocal to one another when needed – and to keep this thing going that we have here at F3Louisville. It’s special and it’s an honor to be part of this group.
Until next time, we hope the PAX enjoyed a blast from the past with the mash-up of Zima and Jolly Rancher!
