A year ago I was an out of shape 40 year old. With work, school, dance, gymnastics, soccer, and baseball the last thing I had time to do was to take care of my health, both physically and spiritually. I had recently participated in the Rugged Maniac at Paoli Peaks. I finished but my upper body strength was pretty much nowhere to be found. I knew I had to do something.
Geppetto had been prodding me for months to try an F3 workout. There was no way I was going to get up and exercise at 5:30AM! Finally I had a Saturday free and showed up at Big Four Station for my first F3 workout. It was a small Pax, 3 including myself. For the next hour I was put through a workout like none I had ever experienced. Running, lunges, squats, push-ups, etc. I got light-headed a number of times but kept pushing forward.
After it was over I went home and talked to my M about it and how much I enjoyed it but I knew I’d never be able to get out of bed early on the weekdays. I had been trying to convince my M to do the Rugged with me the following year. She made a bet with me that if I got up and worked out at 5:30AM then she would sign up. ANYBODY would have taken that bet. We’re talking “Miracle on Ice” type of upset here.
I would assume that most of you reading this, myself included, begin F3 for the fitness aspect. It doesn’t take long to realize that it’s the 2nd and 3rd Fs that truly makes this group something special. While I’m still not where I want to be, physically and spiritually, I’ve made great strides in the past year and a lot of that is because of the HIMs of F3Louisville.
Now that I’ve got all the mushy feel good stuff out of the way now for the Backblast:
