Backblast – 05.05.2022 – Moonshiner @ The Boondocks – Captain Crunchberry Q

Weather – High 50’s low 60’s. With a pretty cool shelf cloud just hanging out.

PAX: Dauber, Brown Water, Backflop, Single Source, Bulletin, and me.

COP: Started with some SSH just to get the engine going, then a mosey back to the concession stand. Once there, we did some Abe Vigodas, Downward Dog, Kendra Newmans, and Michael Phelps.

I recently completed my second half marathon. As the date of that run started to get closer, I was looking for what would come next. Did I want to run another half marathon? A full marathon? That got me wondering about a sprint triathlon. 750 meter swim, 10K bike, and a 5K run. All manageable distances, and would likely take about the same amount of time as my half marathon would take. So I started researching ways to train, without a swimming pool. This was my poor man’s attempt at that.

MAIN THANG: A Triathlon. Well, sort of… At the concession stand was the bike portion. 4 exercises. Freddie Mercury, Step-ups (each leg), Mountain Climber (4 count), and Bobbie Hurleys. Then mosey around the sidewalk out to the parking lot to the swim portion. The swim consisted of Australian Snow Angels, Merkins, Overhead Claps, and Dying Cockroach. Then a mosey back to the concession stand. At the halfway point between the swim and the bike we would do a burpee. Each lap the burpee count would increase by one. We started with 10 each exercise, and each lap the count increased by 5.

As time started to expire, we rallied back to the starting point to finish with some flutter kicks. Because somehow during my planning of this, they were eliminated from the swim portion.

Intentions for Bulletin, and his older sister. (Not the sister he donated a kidney to.)

In closing, we generally tell each other to be the light in the darkness for those who need it. To be a helper to others. But today I told the PAX to look inward. To take 5 minutes and do something for themselves. I completed a half marathon this past weekend. I might have missed my time goal, but it is still a huge accomplishment to most everyone you ask. I’m great good at encouraging others. I’m great good at pushing others. But today I’m going to pat myself on the back for a job well done.
