3.18.24 BackBlast: The Silo at North Posh…and other catch-ups

I’ve fallen off the wagon a bit on getting my Back Blasts out there. In my humble opinion, I feel like they are and have always been an important part of what we do. It’s another form of engagement that’s easy to let fall by the wayside. For me, and I’m sure many can relate, life gets busy. Work has offered new challenges, my 2.0’s have been busier than ever (which means me and my M have become pro bono Uber drivers) and 9 & 10 pm come quicker and quicker with each passing day. I’ve become lazy in thinking, “eh, no one reads them anyway.” But what if one person or a handful do and that’s what keeps them engaged, living vicariously through our shenanigans while they work to recover from whatever. Or maybe they worked hard ITG and are eager to see what the Q’s take on the day was and if they made the back blast? Anyway…I’ll try to sum up a few that I missed.

At The Mutt we started at the normal 0531 time, entered the Danger Zone, waddled like ducks and learned that little people may have similar sized attributes as everyone else.

At The County, we had a great showing, traversed the land and searched up (mid beatdown) the origin of some songs on the playlist.

At The Patriot we high fived, knuckle bumped, sprinted hills and talked about dead presidents.

At the Hawk’s Nest I broke the internet. A workout exclusively built around your Bird’s favorite songs had to be modified on the “fly” when AT&T went dark. We managed just fine and Vincent introduced me to church steps.

At Pleasantville we took flight, box jumped some stairs, knocked out some daily pull-ups all whilst breathing in some inspirational tracks.

And finally, this brings me to this past Monday at N Posh.

The PAX: Husky (R), Kitty Litter (R), Natty Lite, Jimmy Neutron – Site Q & BigBird (Q)

As I was deep in thought about what to do, I remembered when Catfish was the Site Q there. The 2 time Spartan award recipient, figured it’d be a great idea to name the workout Beastmode Mondays, wherein The Q had to lay down a particularly difficult Q. Fairly easy for stiff wienke production since the site sits atop a hill. And as it turns out, hill repeats are good training for an ensuing marathon.

Jimmy reaches out the day before and just as a stellar Site Q does, to see if I’m good and need anything. PreBlast posted, 0530 arrived, disclaimer given (although Kitty Litter called me out on failing to mention that I wasn’t a professional) and off we would go towards US 60 to get loose. High Knees and Butt Kickers for our treck back up the hill.

Made our way to the startex for our COP where we did the usual: SSH, Grass Grabbers & Runners Stretchin.

Thang 1: run down the hill to the secluded picnic area where many, many extracurricular surely take place, for a Tony Malito favorite: Dips & Derkins. 20 dips to 30 Derkins – rinse and repeat for three rounds.

Thang next: mosey onward & downward to the open parking lot at the way bottom of the hill. On the steepest secret little gem that the park has to offer, we got in 10 jump squats at the bottom, run to the top, 10 decline Carolina Dry Docks and R&R for 3 sets.

Thang after that: In the open parking lot we would lunge walk the length of one end and Bernie Sanders our way back on the other side. R&R for three rounds.

Final thang: mosey around and up the hill where we would stop at the steepest point for 10 jump lunges, then mosey down for 10 burpees. At this point Jimmy, who has been mostly quiet starts proclaiming his disdain for your Bird and his choice of exploration. Hey, it’s Beastmode Monday bro!!

Time got cut short and at 0612 your Bird calls it and says, “let’s head to the flag!” On up the hill we would go and in true beast mode, HIM fashion, Husky, Kitty Litter, Natty Lite, & Jimmy Neutron turned up the heat and finished strong for the last one best one of 400m.

We circled up around the flag for COR, NOR and COT. Made some announcements and lifted up the intentions that we held in our hearts. Thanked the men in our small circle for making the decision to wake up on a Monday and commit to doing something tough, together!

Until next time…

BigBird
