5/18/19: BB – Nest @ The County

It wasn’t quite an empty Nest, but numbers were down as expected. Shout out to the Pax who competed in, and/or otherwise supported the AO Olympics with your time and energy. It looked like a great event, and hopefully one that can continue. I did get 3 strong gentlemen whom I have collectively known for about 50 years.  They were:

Pax: Airplane, Jolly Rancher, Pork Chop, Fergie (Q)

Despite Airplane’s suggestion (and eventual insistence) that we break for coffee at 6:50, 7:00, 7:10, 7:20… (you get the picture), we persevered for the full hour. I understand he did get his coffee at 8:20.

We did a quick lap around the AO, and did a few warm-ups along the way (SSH, grass grabbers, etc).

We started the first thang as follows:

In a line, the Pax bears crawls to spot one (width of 1 parking spot, or about 6′). 5 merkins. Crawl bear back to the start. Bear crawl the width of 2 parking spots. 10 merkins. Repeat increasing the distance by 1 parking spot and the merkin count by 5 up to 20, then work back down decreasing by 1 spot and 5 merkins.

Next thang was our first go of Dora. The run distance was about 70-80 yards each way, and the exercises were as follows: 25 man makers – 50 burpees – 100 squat thrusters – 50 burpees – 25 man makers

At some point in the second thang, I remarked to the Pax that only 24 minutes had passed and based on my Friday, I was out of planned content. The rest was going to need to be improvised with the help of the Pax.

Next was a modification of walk like an Egyptian, with some running and lunge walking mixed in.

At Pork Chop’s suggestion, we used the hill of holes for one more round of Dora. This was 100 coupon curls, 200 skull crushers and 300 squats.

After we all ate our weight in gnats, we called it with about 10 minutes left to return the coupons, and a mosey back to the flag. Finished with a round of Mary (LBCs, American Hammers and maybe a couple others).

We closed with the COT, announcements and intentions. Some funny stories were shared and we reminisced for a bit back to our high school days. Its been a little over a year since I’ve been coming out to the gloom, and a great experience to continue on with great friends I’ve had for many years, as well as the ability to make a lot of new ones.
