Ever take some time to reflect on what you have accomplished in a year? Ever do that at a time that’s not January the 1st? It’s healthy to not just set goals to get better in the future and not to just be present in the moment but also to think about the wins you have been able to celebrate. The little victories that have guided you into peeling back the layers of yourself on the journey to become the best possible version of who you are meant to be. As I look at my last year’s journey, I am no doubt a changed man. When Abacus asked me to be The Site Q at the Saturday Black Ops at The County, my first thought was, “can I do that? Be in charge of a workout site every week for the foreseeable future? I’ve never done anything like this before. What if no one shows up? What if it I fail?” Ok, that’s several thoughts but still and all, if Abacus is giving me the head nod, he must have faith in me. I have to be a “yes man” for this one. Then my second thought…St. Aloysius’ mascot is an eagle. I am a bird (of sorts). I’ll do it if I can name the AO. And there you have it…The NEST!
Prior to the workout I put my PB out stating that it was time for me to hand over the reins. Make it out if you could. I was certain I would have at least a couple of dudes there but YHC was humbled to see the PAX roll in one by one and in some cases (Porkchop) come and find us. That’s why I love Dem County Boys! They are always there to support each other through it all. I was also ecstatic to see some unexpected, familiar not so regular County Boy faces ITG! 28 of us in total!!
PAX: Gilligan, Airplane, Zartan, Pelican, Fructose, Giselle, Captain Crunchberry, Amelia, Crockpot, Back Flop, Toothless (McAfee’s nephew-2.0 FNG), Meter Maid, Fergie, Porkchop, Abacus, LePew, Husky, Aerobie, Brown Water, Cratchit, Cardigan, Shalomar, Alexa, Bulletin, Dauber, BigBird (QIC)
As 0700 approached, a small lump in my throat came about seeing all of the support. I had to fight it back. We’ve got work to do. Said disclaimer and told brief story about who I am and some of my journey.
Off for a mosey around the campus and ended up at the top parking lot (The Midway) for…
COP: SHH, Grass Grabbers, Bat Wings, Chicken Wings, Pigeon Stretch
Tabata: Hand Release Merkins to Seal’s version of the Steve Miller Band tune, Fly Like an Eagle.
Mosey to the Back Parking Lot behind the chapel. Bear crawl half way across the lot, Crab walk the rest and Bernie Sanders Back. Rinse and repeat for the duration of the Beatles song BlackBird.
Mosey behind the Eagle’s Nest. 10 Curls, 10 tricep press and 10 thrusters. Rinse and repeat for the duration of the Prince Song, When Doves Cry.
Mosey to the playground. 5 pull-ups, 10 merkins, 15 squats. R&R to the Sinatra song Come Fly With Me
Mosey to the Green Space. 10 Dips, run across the field, 5 Burpees, run back. R&R to the Ozzy song, Flying High again.
Mosey to the main lot. Gilligan called this one early in the hour. You know it! The almost 10 minute Skynyrd song, Free Bird. We (and when I say “we” that includes all of us except Airplane and Zartan. They couldn’t help it that they missed each other…) would do 5 Star Jacks, 10 Merkins and 15 Jump Lunges for the entirety of the song.
After that we would recover and finish with a song announcing The Nest’s newest Site Q, holding plank until you heard his name and then you would do a Merkin. The song would be Pelicans We by Cosmo Sheldrake.
We would finish with Pelican giving us some Mary. You’re going to do awesome my dude!
Circled up for COR, NOR & COT. Made some announcements, said some intentions, especially for our boy Bulletin and Thanked the Sky Q for all of the possibilities that are in another day. Also thanked the Sky Q for all of the men that decided to pull themselves out of the FartSack to send me on my way. I am better because of all of you!
Until Next Time…
