Back Blast – 11/14/2020 – The Nest @ The County

Weather was a bit chilly on Saturday. But, that didn’t stop a few of us from getting busy with a little pre-ruck (Cratchit, Timeshare, Bulletin, DeVito and I).

We ended the pre-ruck and gathered up with the awaiting PAX who started to linger in. I ran into Brown Tail first – that dude is killing it. He looks great and has been flat getting after it. Well done, brother.

Other PAX started to file in as expected. Much smaller numbers than the past few weeks, which frankly is a good thing. We still had 21 PAX, which was great.

Time was called and I gave the standard disclaimers. Advised the PAX that despite my appearance, I was in fact not a professional and they were there on their own free will and should modify, if necessary. I confirmed we had a few FNGs – one of which I was involved in headlocking and a few 2.0 FNGs. It was great to see, which means the extra Q-juice started to flow.

  • Holy Roller (R)
  • Diane Dukes – he loves The County
  • Short Circuit
  • DeVito
  • Kenwood
  • Timeshare
  • Hardwood
  • Hushpuppy
  • Brown Water
  • Brown Tail (R)
  • Launch Pad (R)
  • iPad (2.0)
  • Lucky Charms – needs a new watch
  • Apollo (2.0) (FNG)
  • Marshmallow (2.0) (FNG)
  • Cratchit
  • Asian Zing (R)
  • Captain Crunchberry
  • Goggles (2.0)
  • Heimlich (FNG)
  • Jolly Rancher (Q)

We then grabbed our coupons and went over to the large lot in the back for some COP, which included:

  • 15x – SSH
  • 15x – Toy Soldiers
  • 15x – SSH
  • 15x – Downward Dog + Runners Stretches
  • 15x – SSH
  • 15x – Copperhead Squats

We then went on a quick lap around the far islands to get the heart rate up.

Thang 1 and 2 – Tabatas:

Yes, Pelican – these were the legit Tabata led by none other than Dr. Dre on the ‘ol trust YouTube app. We did two separate tabatas, with 4x of one exercise and 4x of a second exercise as follows:

  • Tabata 1 – 4x Curls; 4x Skull Crushers. Ended with a lap around the far islands.
  • Tabata 2 – 4x Bench Presses; 4x Weighted Big Boy Situps. Ended with a lap around the far islands.

Thang 3 – Merkin Bear Crawl Jack Webb:

This is becoming a favorite of mine. It sucks for all the right reasons. You start with 1x merkin, then a 4x bear crawl. Then increase to 2x merkins, then 8x bear crawl all the way until you get to 10x and 40x, respectively. Again, it was overwhelmingly sucky.

At one point, Timeshare told me I was going to run off our FNGs. Nah, they’re men – they’ll be back.

Another lap around the far islands.

Thang 4 – Lt. Dan’s:

As I was headlocking my FNG to join us for the WO, I told him about Lt. Dan’s – another favorite, but doesn’t get enough love sometimes…because, well, it sucks, too. So it’s another Jack Webb style exercise, but focused on your legs. We did 1x jump squats, then a 4x jump lunge [each foot was 1x] – all the way to 10x and 40x, respectively. I think it was Round 9 that I needed a respite – so t-claps to Brown Water for picking me up on that one.

Another lap around the far islands.

Thang 5 – Another Jack Webb?!?:

Yep. This time it was merkins and air presses. Again, pretty simple but after the Merkin Bear Crawls the arms were feeling it. I couldn’t help but notice a few PAX didn’t get all their air presses in – you can pay up next time.

Yep, you got it – another lap.

Thang 6 – Another Tabata?!?:

Timing was all off on this weinke. Sorry, PAX. This time we just did flutter kicks for 4x rounds and V-ups for 4x rounds. I had no idea that these would suck as much as they did after Lt. Dan’s. Try it. It sucks.

After that, we went around the circle and the PAX led us in some Mary, which included the following [perhaps more, but I can’t remember]:

  • Gas Pumps
  • Dying Cockroaches
  • Supermans
  • Big Boy Situps
  • Pickle Pounders

Time was then called.

Countarama, namearama, naming of our FNGs, announcements and intentions.

FNGs background:

  • Heimlich works with Cratchit, Timeshare and I – it was good to have him join us. We’ve been working on him for a few months. Like me, he’s a Louisville Cardinals fan…as you know, they always choke. So, Heimlich it is.
  • Marshmallow – This is Lucky Charm’s middle 2.0. We stuck with the Lucky Charms theme – and we all know the marshmallows are the best thing in that cereal.
  • Apollo – This is Lucky Charm’s oldest 2.0. He loves lego and space things. Nothing better than Apollo for that.

It was a great day at The County like always. It’s always a pleasure to lead these men in something like what we do. Humbled that we have the bodies, minds and energy to do things like what we accomplished today. Be the light in the darkness for those that need it.

Jolly Rancher out!
