Back Blast – Moonshiner @ Boondocks – 01/07/2021

As noted in my pre-blast, I was excited to jump at the opportunity to lead a shiny, brand new WO at an existing AO. It’s been fun to see what moving The Station to The Boondocks has done to the Bootleggers at The Boondocks. They’ve captured the Ghost Flag, they’ve stole about 5 or 6 PAX from The County, and they talk almost just as much trash talk as Kilo and Worm…well, okay, maybe they aren’t to that level yet.

The starfish of The County started well over a year ago when we created The Boondocks and The Station as BlackOps workouts. Bulletin and Fungi both jumped on the opportunity to starfish at these BlackOp sites. Both worked for a while and we made them official AOs. Then, boom…COVID hit. Things have been tough on numbers. And growth at The Station has always been tough because its proximity to The County – it was too close to have its own identity. I also think only having one WO at an AO is tough for people to call it home and get that momentum (for example, who really calls Pleasantville their home AO except the Site Q?). It doesn’t mean they aren’t fantastic places to workout.

So, Captain Crunchberry had the idea to just move it The Inferno workout at The Station on Thursday to The Boondocks – something which I fully supported because we have actually seen growth in FNGs and certain PAX coming to The County from LaGrange and the other end of Oldham County. The objective of the move is to position ourselves in areas where we see growth. Areas where we can identify, emotionally headlock and impact more men in the community. And, although the Bootleggers are a bunch of crazy HIMs, I love them just the same and confident that with this wind in their sails we will continue to do just that in this area of F3Louisville.

  • Spree
  • Bulletin (R), the Boondocks Godfather
  • Wildflower
  • Honey Do
  • Water Works
  • Mr. Hat
  • Jolly Rancher (Q)

Time was called at 0530am and we grabbed our coupons for a quick mosey to the concession stand – taking the back sidewalk path due to the garbage truck that showed up just as time was called.

  • SSH
  • Toy Soldiers
  • Downward Dog
  • And some other stuff that I already can’t remember…

Then, I introduced the one and only Thang.

The Thang – The Moonshiner Mile:

I labored over the night before how to try and make the first Moonshiner workout memorable. I didn’t want it to fall flat. So, I went back to the Iron Pax Challenges / Weekend Warrior Challenges from prior years and built my own little list of pain, which was modeled after the Mogadishu Mile. It included:

  • 1 mile run – 4 laps around the baseball field
  • 25x – Big Boy Sit Ups
  • 50x – Groiners – Single Count
  • 75x – Overhead Presses
  • 100x – Curls
  • 1/4 mile run – 1 lap around the baseball field
  • 25x – Hillbilly Squats – In Cadence
  • 1/4 mile run – 1 lap around the baseball field
  • 100x – Curls
  • 75x – Overhead Presses
  • 50x – Groiners – Single Count
  • 25x – Big Boy Sit Ups
  • 1 mile run – 4 laps around the baseball field

I suspected the workout would last well over the time allowed, but Wildflower and Mr. Hat still almost crushed everything except the last mile run.

While we were crushing the Thang, I started the music playlist which was 100% bluegrass music in honor of the Bootleggers.

Also, at some point we had a visitor shine their lights on us as we worked out…one of Oldham County’s finest police officers. It was really kind of fitting knowing that it was the Moonshiner and all. The good news is once he saw that we weren’t doing anything nefarious – you know, like illegally distilling alcohol – he turned his lights off and went along his business.

We grabbed the coupons and headed back to the flag for a few minutes of Mary, which included:

  • Flutterkicks – only because we were at the Boondocks…it’s like a requirement in the Boondocks Bylaws that every workout must include Flutterkicks
  • Gas Pumps
  • Pickle Pounders
  • Reverse Pickle Pounders

Countarama, namearama, announcements and intentions.

#Freedtobleed is still in need of PAX to step up and sign up. Kilo also needs some help manning the registrations if you are able to donate more of your time. Also, it is great to see so many PAX able to join on Saturday for Dare to Care – incredible. Let’s just hope Dauber doesn’t show up to ruin the potential record (only kidding, even Dauber helps sometimes).

I also mentioned Captain Crunchberry, the Moonshiner Site Q, in intentions, who is dealing with some lower back pain from some bulging discs. It sucks being sidelined and I know many others are in the same boat.

Always a pleasure to lead.

Jolly Rancher out!
