Nothing beats a trip to Vets. Hands down you’re always guaranteed a good time and a laugh…or two. This trip was no different.
Earlier in the week, I received word that a downrange PAX was going to be in town. Naturally, I encouraged him to join me at The Tank for my Q and also to experience some of the best mumblechatter in the Region. He obliged. And, if that wasn’t enough he wanted to do a pre- or post-run. So, I threw it out there and of all people, Cousin Eddie was running to Vets and said he could join him. I connected the two and it was history.
As time was drawing near, sure enough the runners were there and even had time for a few extra laps around the circle.
At 0530am, time was called and the following PAX were there to join in on the fun:
- Worm (partial credit for leaving early)
- Tony Malito
- Vincent (R)
- Pet Sounds (DR PAX from Raleigh)
- Cousin Eddie
- SGT Hulka
- Jolly Rancher (Q)
We did the standard fanfare for COP, which included:
- Downward Dog + Runners Stretches
- Toy Soldiers
- More SSH
- Grass Grabbers
Thang 1 – BOMBS:
I then introduced the first thang to the group. Of course, it’s partner work and we had odd numbers. But, we muddled our way through it with a team of 3 and it worked out just fine. PAX 1 started the cumulative reps and PAX 2 did a circle around the monument. Exercises and reps:
- Burpees – 50x
- Overhead Presses – 100x
- Merkins – 150x
- Big Boy Sit-ups – 200x
- Squats – 250x
I was fortunate to be partner with Worm – he talks so much he never counts. So, pretty sure he has a minimum rep count of at least 50 when I came back from the mosey. At some point, Worm said he “had to go early” which I’m pretty sure means he had a code brown. Not sure.
Thang 2 – Jack Webb:
You really can’t go to Vets and not do Dips and Derkins, right? Know what I’m saying, Tony Malito?!? So, we gathered around the tomb and got a few rounds in with some help of the PAX around me to help with the cadence. We started with 4 dips and 1 derkin and then made our way up to 20 dips and 5 derkins. Arms were really feeling it so decided that was enough.
Took off for a mosey times 2 around the monument and circled back up for some Mary.
I led off with my favorite of Gas Pumps, PK did some Freddy Mercury’s, Tony Malito did some Weezey Jeffersons, Vincent did some LBCs with heel taps, Pet Sounds did Makhtar N’Diayes, and then Cousin Eddie rounded us off with some Flutter Kicks.
Time was called.
Countarama, namearama, announcements and intentions. Banquet on January 28 and monthly ruck on January 22.
Always a pleasure to lead the men at Vets!
Jolly Rancher out!
