Don’t know how many of you are aware but Tuesday’s Loco is Pelican’s second go round as Site Q. His first was taking over The Nest passed on by yours truly. Fast forward a year or so and as The County #’s were falling off, he and Dauber decided to take matters into their own hands and #MTCGA. Pelican has created and/or led the charge on such things as the 3rd annual NYE celebration (coming your way on Saturday morning, 0700), F3 on 3, FSRC, The Fall Festival at The County and of course the Making The County Great Again initiative. Every AO has something special to offer and The County has…well, a Pelican. Take that how you will but he is a creative personality that we are fortunate to call our own. I’m glad to be a part of our County tribe and was happy to be called upon to take lead on this day.
On a day that was warmer but still in the low 20’s, I was pumped to see a solid crew of HIM corralling around the basketball court, ready to get after it! The PAX: Cochran, Pelican, PCI, Panel Van, DeVitto, WILDflower, BigBird (Q), Hush Puppy (would get half credit for starting with The Runners and would finish up with our group of bada$$es.
YHC forgot his watch so I had no way of knowing what time it was. Luckily, Pelican was eager to try out the digital time telling capabilities of his new Coros watch and let PAX know it was 0530 and time to get underway. Disclaimer was given and off we would go for a mosey around the islands, stopping after one revolution for 30 IC SSH.
Mosey onward to the Little Colonel playhouse where PCI was already refusing to do snowy BBSUs. 5 Burpees followed by 10 IC Grass Grabbers. Continue our Mosey to the next stop for 5 more Burpees and a Runners Stretch. We discussed why it is that LePew’s M will always stay with him. Mosey to the Midway for 5 more Burpees and a round of BLIMPS (5 Burpees, 10 Lunges, 15 Imperial Walkers, 20 Merkins, 25 Plank Jacks & 30 Squats). Pelican keeping time reminded me that we had only 10 minutes left even though really it was more like 35 minutes. Mosey to the Portico to get in 5 more Burpees before a round of 1 – 4 Box Jumps to Dips. Since I didn’t have my watch, I couldn’t count but luckily it was overshadowed by some fantastic mumble chatter. We all worked hard and our triceps were gassed! As a reward we would Mosey out and back a couple hundred yards and meet back up at….
The Playground: with the pull up challenge on the horizon, we had to put in our pre work in. Three sets of 10 pull-ups, 15 Merkins, 20 Squats (Crockpot style) followed by an out and back mosey after each set. One thing to note: when doing Merkins in 3” of playground snow, it don’t count unless your nose and forehead leave a mark, right DeVitto?
Your boys beasted through this and Panel Van was caught doing some EC speed work on our way back to the flags…flag…wait, there was no flag(s) because Pelican didn’t want to get dirty with snow. Anyway, we met up at that spot and with Pelican telling us we had 6 minutes left, it would be perfect to bring us home with some Captain Thor’s ( 1 – 4 BBSUs to IC American Hammer). We would get to 7 and 28 before time was called. Jewel would’ve been proud as we almost had a merlot splash. However, I was more concerned with Panel Van’s well being than seeing what his night before dinner looked like. He was a beast and pushed himself hard to go beyond what is comfortable…and that’s why we get up. It ain’t to take it easy! Strong work brother!!
COR, NOR & COT: Made announcements about Pelican’s NYE Q on Saturday that you won’t want to miss. Also encouraged the men to sign up for the Pull-up challenge. Prayed for DeVitto’s buddy Brad that passed away a couple of weeks back. Thanked The Sky Q for this group of men and as always, for the prospect of another day.
Until next time…
