4/17/18 Backblast #theO Butcher VQ “Bluff City Invasion”

{this message brought to you by Influenza B, my constant companion since VQing on Tuesday}

Conditions: 33 degrees, internal rage: it’s supposed to be spring
Pax (21):, Double Down (R), Abacus, Little Jerry (R), Piggy, Lamb, Soybean, Tron, OJ, Scratch, Who Dey, Plethora, Cardinal, Mayberry, Donger, Vincent (R), Peach, Phat Pat, Wham!, Red Roof, Butcher (Q).

My VQ has been a long time coming, so I wanted it to be unforgettable.  It certainly was, starting at 5:29 when these two idiots (read my dear friends who were my original EHLs, live in Memphis (Bluff City), and drove up the night before just to surprise me at my VQ) rolled up screaming incoherently and confusing everyone.IMG_4713.JPG

And so, we mosey’d to a grassy(ish) spot for COP consisting of:

35 SSH IC
20 Hillbillies IC
20 Grass grabbers IC
20 Copperhead Squats IC

Thang 1:  Bataan Death March

This announcement was met with looks of equal parts curiosity, confusion, and incredulity as it was explained to be a modification of an Indian Run where the pax at the back of the line does 5 burpees before catching back up and getting to the front of the line.  This was dang hard.  Split into 2 groups to run the loop in opposite directions and meet back where we started.

Thang 2: Bear Crawl 1-2-3

Once again this is a modification of a classic (Dora 1-2-3).  In this case pax divide into teams of 2.  Partner 1 does Bear Crawl 20 yards, then Crawl Bear (bear crawl in reverse) back to where Partner 2 is doing the following:
100 Merkins
200 LBCs
300 Squats
Partners switch on and off until all are completed.

If the pax hated vegan Q’s before, they loathed them after PETA-friendly Bear Crawl 1-2-3.  All pax finished strong, even though I heard rumors that there may have been one or two puddles of merlot in the trees.

We mosey’d back to our grassy(ish) spot for Mary consisting of

20 LBCs IC
20 Gas Pumps IC
20 Freddy mercuries IC
20 Rosalitas IC

I had a few extra minutes at this point, so I voluntold a few pax to pick their favorite Mary and lead us.  Most of these were forgettable (because I forgot them), but one that we will all remember is Phat Pat’s U-S-A cadence count for American Hammers.

After this, we mosey’d back to the flag for name-o-rama, announcements, and intentions.  Challenge to all pax to consider where their confidence is.  Is it in our own abilities or financial situation, or is our confidence in the Lord?

Reflection:  I’m honored to be part of this group of men.  The intentionality of coming alongside eachother is a constant inspiration to me.  By God’s grace may we be better husbands, fathers, sons, friends.
