I had been to Goshen only once and it was on their opening Thursday. I’ve been meaning to get back but it seemed like I was always being pulled somewhere else on Thursdays. Now, as the quickest growing AO in the region following The Patriot, Tuesday is an option as well. When Tuesdays went from a good idea to a reality, Viking was looking to fill up the calendar he asked if I wanted to take a date. Sure thing my pillaging, plundering pal; sign me up! Today was the day and with all of the new guys that the AO has brought out I was looking forward to making some new friends.
I was at work when I was thinking about what I wanted my theme to be. As I sometimes do when deep in thought, I put my head down and glanced to the left. There it was. A painting my daughter had made for me and the words on it read: “Life’s too short to always be serious.” Ain’t that about the truth! Well then, let’s have a little fun with this one. What better way to introduce my bird-onality to group of dudes that I haven’t yet met than with a dose of Manamana and Bird is the Word!
0530 and as I suspected Flex was the only one there that I knew. Well, not really…Lumbergh was there. Lumbergh was a 2018 OG from The County that only recently started coming back out. And if my memory serves me correct, I feel like once upon a time we were talking about his story and posting and how he got his name (which I feel like was Hello Kitty or something) and he was griping about his name and how dumb it was. Maybe his absence was intentional and he was waiting for A) a spot closer to his house (2 minutes by the way) and B) a long enough span of time to go by where he could get a new F3 identity. Welp, Lumbergh it is. Maybe he does a lot of TPS reports on Saturdays. I’ll have to find out. Anywho…
The PAX: Lightfoot, Lumbergh, Bueler Wolverine, Maytag, Flexseal & BigBird (Q)
After a conversation about how Wolverine lucked out with a cool name…unless you’re Wolverine and your a Buckeye fan,…disclaimer was given and off we would go for a mosey. We would circle up behind the church for some COP (Grass Grabbers, Pendulums, Runners Stretch) and some B.L.I.M.P.S. (5 Burpees, 10 Lunges, 15 Imperial Walkers, 20 Merkins, 25 Plank Jacks & 30 Squats.
Recover and mosey across to the main lot for some Manamana: SSH for the duration of the song and drop for a burpee every time we heard Manamana. Pretty sure at this point everyone didn’t know what to think as they were just quietly putting in work. I think I was the only one laughing at the silliness of it all…
The Next Thang: Mosey just outside of the parking lot. At the starting point we would get in 20 Merkins at the bottom of a modest incline. An “All Out” for about 200 yards and mosey back. Rinse and repeat-o twice more. Recover and head to the main parking lot for…
The After That Thang: 11’s of Carolina Dry Docks on one side, run about 100 yards and Jump Squats on the other. PAX were feeling gassed but all worked hard to push through and to those that finished first would pick up the “6” so we could all finish together. We had a bit of extra time so we got in a couple of rounds of 20 Big Boys, Bernie the same 100 yards and mosey back. Recover and just enough time for….
The Final Thang: Bird is the Word by the Trashmen. This is the perfect song to incorporate into a workout because the duration is 2 minutes and 20 seconds or 140 seconds when broken up is 35 seconds X 4. The first 35 seconds: Groiners, the second 35: Mac Tar Jai (sp), the third 35: Plank Jacks and the final 35: Mountain Climbers. Again, PAX were unsure to think. My hope though is that one day when one of these fine men step outside of their comfort zone to lead that maybe they’ll remember that it is okay and really…absolutely necessary to inject some of your personality into your workouts. Our individuality and perspective is what makes each one of us special and the Sky Q put us on this earth and at this point in time to uncover who it is we are and to share it with the world.
Time was called and we would circle up for COR, NOR and COT. Made an announcement about the Capture the Flag ruck on July 1st. Some good dialogue here as we had some newer guys that are eager to learn more. We next bowed our heads and asked the Sky Q to listen to the intentions that we hold in our hearts. Thanked him for this day and a great group of guys willing to get up, get out and get better.
Until next time…
