6.9.22 Back Blast: Big Kapowski @ Bayside

Inspiration for this WO would come easy. This week I have been doing homework listening to REO Speedwagon, Styx & Loverboy on my ad free, 6 month free trial Apple Music membership in preparation for Saturday’s concert at Riverbend. At some point during reminiscing I remembered that I had the Q at Bayside. Bayside, being the highschool of one of my favorite shows during my adolescence, Saved By the Bell, seemed a perfect opportunity for an 80’s throwback themed workout. My only hope was that Slide Rule could come to appreciate it since I don’t think he was born yet while that show and 80’s music was at its prime.

Pre Blast: check. Playlist: check. Workouts to go with the music: check. 80’s tank top, flourescent orange ranger panties & Richard Simmons wristbands: check, check & check. PAX: not as strong a check as I had hoped for but we would have enough for a workout so check nonetheless.

PAX: Slide Rule, Borland (R), Birdie, Slugger, BigBird (Q)

0530, disclaimer was given and off we would go for a warmup mosey around the lot. Circle up for…

COP: SSH, Imperial Squat Walkers, Runners Stretch complex, stay in Plank for 10 IC Mountain Climbers 10 Merkins followed by 10 more IC MC.

Recover and mosey over to the Tailgator for…

The Song: Working for the Weekend by Loverboy. Plank Jack for the entirety of the song breaking for Merkins during the chorus’s. Recover and walk about twenty paces to the front of school for…

The Thang: Here we would give Slide Rule and Slugger a lesson on some fantastic 80’s music while YHC, Birdie and Borland remembered where we were and what we were doing when some of these songs were being played. The workout: 5 Burpees, run 100 yards and 5 burpees – mosey back. 5 burpees, 10 Derkins, run, 5 burpees, mosey back. 5 burpees, 10 Derkins, 15 dips, run 5 burpees, mosey back. 5 burpees, 10 Derkins, 15 dips, 20 step ups, run, 5 burpees, mosey back. 5 burpees, 10 Derkins, 15 dips, 20 step ups, 25 toe taps, run 5 burpees, mosey back. 5 burpees, 10 Derkins, 15 dips, 20 step ups, 25 toe taps and 30 Merkins. Run, 5 burpees and mosey back.

At the beginning of our runs I smelled something that had the odor of a dead skunk. I brought this to Slide’s attention and he said, “oh, we call that “The Monster.” He would further elaborate that it was the smell of sewage and methane…or something like that…that comes from the cafeteria. The school is a sight to behold but not sure what they are feeding these poor kids out in Shelbyville…

We would recover and head back to the flag for a few minutes of Mary and finish whilst holding plank so that everyone had time to call out a ten count. Time was called.

Circled up for COR, NOR & COT. Made some announcements and lifted up our prayers. Thanked the Sky Q for another fantastic opportunity for us to come together, enjoy each other’s company and to work hard while doing so. Thank you boys for making it out and induldging me in some jacka$$ery.

Until next time…

BigBird
