With the first day of school looming, I was hoping to incorporate something from school into today’s weinke.  While having the Pax complete a plank inch work around the building al la carpool came to mind, I wanted to move around.  I was talking to the 2.0’s at lunch yesterday about school and their favorite classes:  Jackson (10) was fast to respond with lunch and Riley (8) is all about gym class.  They asked me what old people did in gym, “Did you guys ride dinosaurs dad?”, and for some reason the Presidential Fitness Test came to mind.  After a quick search on the Google box, I was convinced we had a weinke.

Pax: Grinder, Fridge, Mad Cow, Pile, Flounder, RiRi, Cowbell, Backdraft, Blue Balls, Snowman, Hamm, Chestnut, Porkchop, Fergi, MacAfee, Yogi, Sump Pump, Glen Ross, Zima (Q).

But first we must warm-up.  Weather check was good.  A semi-muggy 67 F, but dry.  At 5:30, we had 19 in the parking lot and disclaimer was given.  Sadly, no FNG’s but plenty of new faces to me.  We moseyed around the building to the big lot where an extensive warm-up was awaiting.

Now for the test.   I wasn’t actually going to keep track of anything, but I thought we should just go ahead and aim for the standards required to place in the 85th percentile circa 1987, when some might say I peaked at physical fitness.  The PFT allows for some modifications (i.e. pull-ups or flexed arm hang) and I don’t own a sit-n-reach box so with some tinkering here and there, a WO was born.

The Test:

50 BB Sit-Ups

25/50/75 Meter Shuttle Run

50 V-Ups

One mile run (Start in parking lot and head to Elmwood; rt. on St Matthews Blvd; rt. on  Ormand; rt. on Cherrywood back; left into HT ending at the playground)

25 Pull Ups

Lunge Walks from playground around school to parking lot

Circle up for U-Call-It Mary

Circle up for announcements and COT.  Q School this Saturday.  Get there if you’ve never Q’d before or have questions, like how do I get this BB on Slack without spending hours typing on my tiny phone in the app.

Intentions for many Pax and their families, co-workers and friends.  Now get out of here before carpool starts.  #getbetter

If you’d like to see if you’ve still got it, you can find the PFT award benchmarks here.
