Message- In Matthew 23, Jesus is speaking (verbally beating down) the (holier than thou) Pharisees. He points out in several ways how they’re all ‘show’ and no ‘go’. In verses 3 – 5 Jesus says, “…For they preach but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by others.” That attitude is the opposite of the attitude in the gloom. We train out here and encourage one another, not so we have the chance to be a bat flipper. I encourage you to be the HIM that trains for improvement, not for glory. Today we threw the weight on (and over) our shoulders so that next time we can (literally or metaphorically) lift a burden for someone else, even if no one is watching.
