I am starting to play catch-up on the 2021 Iron Horse challenge. Pelican recently agree to give me the Foundry Q since he had two other Qs this week. I rolled up 7 minutes early to see a few of the PAX there and starting to arrive. I had packed plenty of rucks in my trunk for those who needed one for this workout. I ended up lending one out to DeVitto. I may have 3 other spares in my trunk as well.
One notable item was the cones blocking the most direct interest to the parking lot. To go that way, PAX had to maneuver their vehicle around the sidewalk. I refer to this as driving like a Nutty Professor. Be careful what you say about him because it is one of Dauber’s 50 brother in laws.
When I usually Q, I methodically plan everything out that I want to do. A few weeks ago, I went to a Sump Pump Q at the O and he talked about how he usually constructs his Qs on the fly. I decided to give it a whirl this time.
PAX: Holy Roller (R), Focker (had two rucks weighing a combined 83 pounds), Tidwell, Honey Do, Brown Water, DeVitto, Gisele, Asing Zing (R), Pelican, Wildflower, Sump Pump and Meter Maid (Q)
I provided a disclaimer that although I have a lot of GoRuck stuff, I am not a trained professional, modify as necessary, everything s a suggestion and maintain space.
Everyone grabbed their ruck(s), and extra weight coupons if they had any. We rucked to the front parking lot for some COP.
I will admit my cadence was off for the SSH. I will blame it on the ruck. We did 20 4 count, then did some downward dog and stuff, Kendrick Newmans (arm circles) and Michael Phelps OYO.
The main thing would heading down Mount Mercy. For each light pole, we did 5 ruck merkins and 10 weighted ruck squats. Between each pole, I would call out a way to carry the ruck [farmers carry, no shoulder straps – anyway you want), rifle carry, alternating farmer carry]. Occasionally, I would skip an exercise like squats and we would accrue it because there are no short cuts in life. Along the way, the PAX realized the distance between poles was not equal. We also lost a WILDFLOWER’s coupon as it shattered into multiple pieces. On the way back, I added in some big boys and sometimes skipped poles to make for a longer rifle carry.
As we headed back for the last thang, we lost three PAX on the way. Luckily no one was hurt. Tidwell had lost his phone during the main thang but luckily he found it.
The last thang was work partner. Partner 1 bear crawled (with or without ruck), while partner 2 rifle carried around the islands. After getting one complete lap past their partner, they would swap. If the rifle carry partner stopped, they owed 5 man makers.
All in all, I had 1.57 miles, which is no bad considering it was a heavy with no running.
We circled up at the flag. We did COR and NOR. For announcements, Sump Pump mentioned the ranger night that is 2.0 friendly and led by 2.0s at the Mutt each Tuesday and Wednesday night from 5:30PM to 6:15PM. Pelican has the Q at County tomorrow so come see how a Pelican does in snow. It should be a memorable one.
For intentions, we prayed for DeVitto’s mom, and Holy Roller’s niece who had a premature baby. Focker mentioned that we should use our words to help lift up others. We ended with an Our Father.
Holy Roller, DeVitto and YHC rans about a 3 mile loop around Pewee Valley after the workout.
Always humbled to lead,
